Srinagar: The number of COVID-19 positive cases in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir rose to 523 as 27 more persons – all from Kashmir- tested positive on Sunday.
Asking people not to get daunted by the spike in cases and stay home to help contain the spread, Rohit Kansal government spokesman tweeted.
“Total cases now 523. But don’t let this number daunt you. This includes 137 recoveries too. Total Active positive cases are 380. We will keep doing aggressive testing and strict containment. And you have to support by #Stayingathome.”
Sunday’s cases include a pregnant woman, a health worker and a minor girl.
South Kashmir’s Anantnag district reported nine cases, Bandipora eight, Baramulla seven, Srinagar two and Kupwara one.
Among the 27 new positive cases, 16 tested positive at SKIMS laboratory and 11 at CD hospital on Sunday.
Health officials at SKIMS said that 16 new patients have tested positive for novel Coronavirus in the Virology laboratory out of 317 samples tested on Sunday. Officials at JLNM hospital said that two fresh Covid-19 positive patients were admitted at JLNM on Sunday including a woman who is five months pregnant and a shopkeeper of Watal Kadal area of downtown.
According to officials, seven out of the eight cases of Bandipora belong to Gund Jahangeer village, while as one is from Wusan Goshbug village.
“Five out of seven cases of Baramulla belong to Sheeri village while as two others hail from Kakkar Hamam and Rafiabad villages.” said an official.
All 94 samples from Shopian, which has seen spike in cases in last couple of days tested negative.
As per the COVID bulletin issued Sunday, Bandipora is topping the list of COVID-19 positive cases in Kashmir with 124 cases followed by Srinagar with 85 cases.
Shopian has 63, Bramulla 62, Anantnag 48, Kupwara 47, Ganderbal 14, Budgam 14, Kulgam 6, and Pulwama 3.
According to the bulletin in Jammu region, Jammu tops the list with 26 cases positive cases followed by Udhampur with 20 cases. Each Samba and Rajouri has 4 while as Kathaua, Kishtwar and Ramban each has 1 positive cases.
“The total number of positive cases in J&K are 523 of which 380 are active while as 137 people have recovered and six people have died so far,” reads the bulletin.
At least 66977 people have been enlisted for observation while as 6232 kept under home quarantine.
“380 people are in hospital isolation and 258 are under hospital quarantine. Surveillance of 49338 people has been completed. 10763 persons are under home surveillance,” it added
