SRINAGAR: The COVID-19 cases continued to show a surge in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Valley as 37 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday, taking the tally of total positive cases in J&K to 971.
Out of 37 new cases, 34 were reported from Kashmir division and three from Jammu region, officials said.
Wednesday’s cases include eight policemen from Anantanag district – three special police officers (SPOs) and a woman police official, reports said.
Notably, there has been a significant recovery of patients during past weeks but the positive cases have also shown a spike after authorities recently increased the testing frequency – beyond 3000 mark tests per day.
Out of 34 new cases in Kashmir division, 13 tested positive at SKIMS and 21 at Chest Disease hospital laboratory.
“At least 1163 samples were processed at CD hospital’s Microbiology Lab and 21 came out to be positive for COVID-19,” said Dr. Salim Khan Nodal officer for Covid-19 at GMC Srinagar.
Out of 21 news cases, 20 are from Anantnag, 8 were reported from District Police lines, 2 from Kharpora Kokernag, 6 from Seer Hamdan, one each from Bantengoo , Naibasti ,Frisal and Khiritaj respectively.
A person from Kulgam district also tested positive at CD hospital laboratory.
Also, out of 1726 samples tested at Viral diagnostic lab of the tertiary care hospital, 13 came out to be positive, officials said.
Out of 13 new cases, seven are from Budgam, five from Basoli Jammu and one from Baramulla, they added.
Dr. Shifa Deva Medical Superintendent JVC Bemina, said that 125 patients have been discharged so far from the hospital and 46 are undergoing treatment.
In Jammu, three more cases were reported – a 52-year-old man from Maanpur Kathua, 67-year-old from New plot Jammu besides a 75-year-old from Preet Nagar Jammu whose sample returned positive after his death.
