Handwara: Relatives of Handwara teen, who died at a Srinagar hospital on Monday morning said that the 18-year-old boy became the victim of a brutal assault by a family in neighbourhood and did not die of Coronavirus.
The aggrieved relatives protested in Handwara soon after the news of Mushtaq Ahmad Tanchi’s death spread. They demanded stern punishment to the accused.
The teen from Leykote Monabal village in Langate constituency was brutally beaten by brothers and cousins of a girl in neighbourhood after being kidnapped on June 11, they said. The accused held him hostage for many hours and beat him mercilessly to take revenge of his elder brother’s act of trying to marry their sister, said victim’s uncle.
Having suffered grievous head injuries, the victim battled for life at SMHS hospital Srinagar for four days and finally succumbed to injuries on Monday.
The relatives demanded stern punishment to the accused involved in the cold-blooded murder.
“The teenaged boy was held hostage by a brothers and cousins of the girl in neighbourhood for many hours and badly beaten before we found him in a very critical condition on June 11. Doctors at Handwara hospital immediately referred him to Srinagar hospital due to critical head injuries,” said Liyaqat Alam, victim’s uncle.
“He remained in Coma since June 11, due to grevious head injuries. And finally succumbed to injuries on Monday morning. He may have tested Covid-19 positive but apparently he died of brutal assault by the goons,” he added.
Village head Leykote Monabal, Nazir Ahmad Khatana said that police picked up four suspects including brother of girl on June 13. Police has launched a manhunt to nab four others involved in cold-blooded murder.
The other four accused involved in murder would be nabbed soon, said a senior police officer.
