Baramulla: A 24- year old girl Sabiya Nabi and an international alpine skier from north Kashmir’s Tangmarg town of Baramulla district hasrhas become the first Kashmiri to receive Sheri-e-Kashmir sports award in the field of skiing for her remarkable performance.
Sabiya Nabi, an alpine skier started her journey, when she was in Class V.
She did her basic course in 2009 after that she did Intermediate in 2010 and advance course in 2011.
“I have participated in many regional, state and national events and won many medals,” Sabiya said.
In 2018, Sabiya participated in 27th Asian Alpine ski championship held in Iran.
Recently, she was felicitated with Sher-i- Kashmir sports award by J&K sports council.
Sabiya said her dream is to participate in winter Asian Games and Olympics.
She appealed the youth of Kashmir, particularly girls to brush their talent in various sporting activities, as there is a lot of hidden talent in the valley.
“I owe my success to my father, who always supported me to pursue this field,” she said.
