Kupwara: To harness the sporting skills of young players and encourage them excel in sports, Kupwara Terriers, also known as 160 TA, Friday provided a local Martial Art academy with practice kits and assured continued support to the children.
The academy which has over 100 students- girls and boys aged between 5 to 18 years is being run by Aijaz Ahmad Bhat in Kupwara.
The academy approached Kupwara Terriers (Indian Army) for supporting the academy as well as provide a platform to the children for showcasing their talent and skills, according to a press release issued by army.
The children from the academy have represented Kupwara in various events and brought glory to their families and the district.
The children academy displayed their prowess and skills during their interactions at Patahirri Garrison and Army Goodwill School Wayne, Kupwara in past few months, reads the press release.
Col. Swaraj Bhattacharya heading Kupwara Terriers presented the children from the academy with practice kit for Martial arts and assured continued support to the children.
The officer reiterated the importance of sports in creating a positive environment to harness the sporting talent in the valley.
The children were excited to receive the equipment, which will assist them in their training and improve their skills.
Kupwara Terriers is committed to reinforce the importance of sports, promote positivity, team spirit and steer the youth away from violence and negative influences, said Col. Bhattacharya.
