Kupwara: Two JeM militants of north Kashmir’s Sopore town on their way to Kupwara along with arms, ammunition and Rs 70,00000 cash were arrested near FCI godown by a joint team of forces Wednesday evening, police said.
They were to conduct terror activities in Kupwara and recruit new youths into militant group, according to police.
“Following a specific input, Police and Army’s 47 RR established nakas at different locations in the district. An Eon car bearing registration no. JK05G-0872 was intercepted near FCI Godown at Drugmullah, Kupwara,” reads police hand-out.
“Two JeM militants identified as Waseem Irshad Gabroo 23, Son of Irshad Ahmed Gabroo of Takiyabal, Arampora, Sopore and Mehraraj Ud Din Wani 21, S/o Ghulam Din Wani
of Badshah Masjid, Sopore were apprehended from the car,” it adds.
Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, incriminating material including AK 47 rifle, AK magzine, two grenades, 30, AK rounds and rupees 7 Lacs, INR were recovered.
A case under FIR no. 233 U/S Indian Arms 7/25 Act, and Ss. 13,18, 19, 39 UAPA has been registered at Policr Station Kupwara and investigation set into motion, police spokesman said.
The recovery of arms and ammunition comes a day after police and army arrested a suspected Hizb militant associate from Kupwara.
