Srinagar: Massive protests rocked Rawalpora area of Srinagar outskirts after army soldiers deployed on the road allegedly thrashed two local youth ‘without any provocation’.
Locals blocked the road at main chowk Rawalpora to condemn thrashing of youth and seek action against soldiers.
Two youth identified as Shahid Ahad Bhat son of Abdul Ahad and Aqib Ashraf Dar son of Muhammad Ashraf Dar, both residents of Rawalpora, were beaten up by the soldiers deployed near the Rawalpora bridge, locals said.
“We are protesting against the unjustified thrashing of our boys. We want action against the soldiers who beat up our children mercilessly,” a protestor was quoted as having said by the KNO, a local news agency.
Aqib has sustained injury in his leg and foot, Shahid suffered cervical injury.
“Both have been shifted to hospital for treatment,” he added.
Defence spokesman in Srinagar Colonel Rajesh Kalia said army is ascertaining the details of the incident.
