Gurugram: The Karnal police on Sunday claimed to have cracked the sensational murder of eminent doctor Rajiv Gupta with the arrest of three persons.
The trio, riding on a motorcycle without a registration number plate, had shot Gupta at the city’s busy Sector 16 Chowk on Saturday. His driver took him to a hospital but he succumbed to injuries during treatment.
The accused had been identified as Pawan, Raman and Shiv Kumar, all residents of Karnal.
Pawan purportedly told the police during interrogation that he worked as dialysis operator at Gupta’s Amritdhara Hospital for more than a decade, but the doctor dismissed him in December last following some “differences”. Gupta also allegedly ensured he did not get a job elsewhere in the city. It infuriated Pawan who hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him, said IGP, Karnal, Yogendra Singh Nehra, at a press conference.
The accused were produced in the court and remanded to police custody. Mr. Nehra said the three would be interrogated to ascertain from where they sourced the weapons and the motorcycle used in the crime.
Soon after the murder, the police placed barricades across the city and carried out random checking of the vehicles. Eight teams were constituted to crack the case and arrest the accused.
Congress Communication chief and Jind MLA Randeep Singh Surjewala condemned the government for “complete failure of law and order”.
