Weather conditions across Kashmir are set to remain largely stable and dry over the coming days, offering respite from active winter spells, even as authorities issued a fog advisory for the Jammu division warning of reduced visibility on highways and plains.
According to the latest forecast, January 4 and 5 are expected to pass without any significant precipitation across Kashmir.
Weather officials said the Valley will see mostly dry conditions, with only a brief change anticipated on January 6, when skies are likely to turn generally cloudy.
“There is a possibility of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir on January 6,” a weather official said, adding that plains and lower areas are unlikely to witness any notable precipitation.
However, brief snowfall cannot be ruled out in high-altitude zones if cloud cover intensifies.
From January 7 to January 15, Kashmir is expected to experience partly cloudy skies, with no major wet spells or widespread snowfall on the horizon.
Officials said the prolonged dry phase should allow daily life to continue largely uninterrupted, though cold wave conditions may persist due to sharp nighttime temperature drops.
Authorities have advised residents and travellers, particularly those heading to higher reaches, to stay alert to local weather advisories, cautioning that winter conditions in mountainous areas can change rapidly.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an advisory for the Jammu division, warning of moderate fog across the plains, with dense to very dense fog likely at isolated locations over the next three days.
Officials said foggy conditions are expected during early morning and late evening hours, particularly in low-lying areas and along open stretches of highways, significantly reducing visibility and posing risks to road traffic.
Commuters have been urged to exercise caution while travelling, especially at night and during morning hours.
Drivers have been advised to use fog lights, avoid overspeeding, and maintain safe distances to prevent accidents under poor visibility.
Authorities said fog may also disrupt vehicular movement on major roads and highways passing through the Jammu plains and advised people to plan their travel accordingly.
The fog advisory will remain in force for the next three days, with intensity varying from place to place.
