Chandigarh-based social media influencer Manjeet Kaur’s death has taken a disturbing turn with the emergence of a video in which she appears to recount the attack that left her critically injured and allegedly claims that she was deliberately set on fire.
In the video, reportedly recorded while she was undergoing treatment, Manjeet is heard appealing to the authorities for justice and naming several people whom she accused of attacking her.
“The condition that you are seeing me in today… Surjit, Shubhi, Neha, and two men along with Shubhi, they all set me on fire,” she said in the video.
She then appealed to the administration to take action against those responsible.
“I beg the administration to please give punishment to whoever has done this to me, as soon as possible,” she said.
Manjeet was initially admitted to a private hospital in Mohali after suffering severe burn injuries. As her condition remained critical, she was later referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh for specialised treatment.
She remained under treatment for nearly three months before succumbing to her injuries in the last week of August.
Her death prompted Chandigarh Police to intensify the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. According to the initial complaint filed by her family, Manjeet had allegedly been kidnapped and subsequently set on fire.
The emergence of the video could provide investigators with another crucial piece of evidence as they reconstruct the events leading to the attack and her eventual death.
Police are expected to establish when and where the video was recorded, verify its authenticity and examine the allegations made by Manjeet against the individuals named by her.
One arrested, main accused remains on the run
Chandigarh Police have arrested Parminder Singh alias Pinda in connection with the case. Investigators have described him as an associate of alleged main accused Rinku.
Pinda is being questioned to establish the sequence of events surrounding the attack and determine the role of those allegedly involved.
Police are also continuing efforts to trace Rinku, who remains absconding.
As the investigation progresses, the video, Manjeet’s initial statement and the evidence gathered by investigators are likely to be examined together to determine what happened on the day she suffered the fatal injuries and who was responsible.
