Srinagar: A soldier and a militant were killed in an ongoing gunfight in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday, officials said.
The gunfight broke out in Chermarg area of the district early this morning. Another soldier was injured during the gunfight, which is still on.
“The injured soldier has been admitted to army’s 92 Base hospital in Srinagar,” GNS, local news agency, quoted a police officer having said.
Earlier, a joint team of Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation following the input generated by J&K Police in the area, officials said.
As the joint team of forces intensified searches around the identified spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off the gunfight.
