After a cautious start, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par has turned the tide dramatically at the box office.
The emotional family drama, which opened to ₹10.7 crore on Day 1, has now amassed a powerful ₹59.12 crore within just three days, firmly positioning itself as one of 2025’s standout performers.
The film’s weekend trajectory has been nothing short of remarkable. Buoyed by overwhelmingly positive word-of-mouth and strong critical acclaim, collections surged by 88.79% on Saturday with ₹20.2 crore, and climbed another 39.7% on Sunday, bringing in ₹28.22 crore.
While many big-ticket releases have banked on massive star casts and lavish spectacles, Sitaare Zameen Par is winning hearts with its soulful narrative and an inclusive cast of neurodivergent actors — a refreshing outlier in a post-pandemic box office landscape dominated by tentpoles.
While the film released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, the Hindi audience continues to drive the lion’s share of its success, contributing ₹28 crore June 22 alone.
The occupancy numbers further underline its growing grip on audiences: 50.7% for Hindi, 41.59% for Tamil, and 21.92% for Telugu.
outperforming rivals, inching closer to record books
Though Sitaare Zameen Par is yet to match the mammoth opening weekend collections of 2025’s current leaders — Chhaava (₹85 crore) and Housefull 5 (₹63.5 crore) — it has already eclipsed several other high-profile releases.
In comparison, Raid 2 managed ₹30 crore, Sikandar earned ₹30 crore, Kesari Chapter 2 collected ₹22.75 crore, while Sunny Deol’s Jaat pulled in ₹23.75 crore in their respective opening weekends.
Redeeming Aamir’s box office run
For Aamir Khan, Sitaare Zameen Par marks a much-needed return to box office form. His previous outings — Laal Singh Chaddha (₹61.36 crore lifetime) and Thugs of Hindostan (₹133 crore lifetime) — had failed to meet expectations.
With ₹59.12 crore already in the bag, Sitaare Zameen Par is on track to surpass Laal Singh Chaddha’s lifetime domestic earnings within days.
While it still trails his all-time blockbuster Dangal, which clocked ₹387.38 crore domestically, the film’s consistent upward trajectory suggests a strong hold in the coming weeks, especially as positive reviews continue to fuel audience turnout.
Surprise fan encounter adds to buzz
Adding to the film’s growing buzz, Aamir Khan along with the debutant cast surprised fans by visiting theaters screening the film. Videos of the interaction, filled with roaring applause and emotional moments, have gone viral, further energizing its box office run.
Directed by RS Prasanna — known for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan — and co-starring Genelia Deshmukh, Sitaare Zameen Par offers not just a film, but an experience, reminding audiences of the power of heartfelt storytelling in an era often ruled by spectacle.
