Budgam: Nearly two weeks after she allegedly killed a 4-year-old girl in Ompora area of Budgam, the leopardess was Tuesday trapped in a cage inside the premises of DC office Budgam, officials said.
The wild animal weighing around 80 kilograms is believed to be responsible for killing minor girl in Ompora.
The scat samples of the leopardess would be sent for DNA sampling to match with those already taken from the site, where the minor girl from Ompora was mauled to death earlier this month.
The victim was lifted by the leopard on June 3, not very far from her house. Next day, her body parts were found in the nearby forest nursery.
The DNA sampling of the scat samples will confirm with certainty if the leopardess was actually the one, which killed the girl, the officials said.
However the pug marks of the animal and the pattern of its movement indicate that it is the same big cat that killed the girl.
The leopardess has been taken to Dachigam, where a veterinarian will carry out the necessary tests as per set protocol.
Notably, the administration had deputed 100 personnel from Forest Department, Forest Protection Force and Wildlife Department to monitor and capture the animal.
