Srinagar: In its’ crackdown against drug abuse, Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday arrested five drug peddlers in southern Kulgam and Ganderbal districts and recovered huge quantities of contraband substance from them.
At least 30 bottles of illicit liquo okr were seized from two bootleggers in Ganderbal, spokesman said.
“Officers at a checkpoint established at Gulab Sheikh crossing in the jurisdiction of Police Station Safapora intercepted an Alto car bearing registration number JK01R-4894 with two persons on board,” spokesman said.
He identified as Bagawan Patra, resident of Odisha and Mushtaq Ahmad Rather resident of Ajas, Bandipora.
During checking, officers seized 30 bottles of illicit liquor from the said vehicle.
The accused lodged at Police Station Safapora. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, spokesman added.
Meanwhile in seperate actions, police arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession in Kulgam and Ganderbal districts.
In Ganderbal, officers at a checkpoint established in Wakoora signalled two persons riding on a motorcycle bearing registration No. JK16-5197 to stop but they tried to flee from the spot.
However they were chased and apprehended tactfully by the alert police party.
Police identified the accused as Fayaz Ahmad Teli of Hajin Bandipora and Shahijahan Ahmad Parra of Zazna. During checking, officers recovered 18 bottles of Codeine Phosphate like substance concealed in a bag from their possession.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 08/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Ganderbal and investigations initiated.
In Kulgam, officers from Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Nepora Chowk area of Qazigund, intercepted a vehicle (Santro Car) bearing registration No.JK03B-8315 with one person on board.
Police identified the accused Shahid Ahmad Thoker of Waghama Bijebhara. During checking, officers were able to recover 43 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in two gunny bags from his possession. The accused was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, a case FIR number 13/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigations initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, spokesman said.
Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should re-assure the community members that police is making relentless efforts to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace, he added.
