History unfolded on the hallowed streets of Monaco as Kush Maini etched his name into the global motorsport elite, becoming the first Indian driver to win a Formula 2 race at the sport’s most prestigious venue.
As he stood atop the podium, bathed in golden Mediterranean sunlight, the Indian national anthem echoed through the Principality — a triumphant sound that marked more than just victory; it signaled a seismic moment for Indian motorsport.
Racing for DAMS Lucas Oil, the 24-year-old Bengaluru native showcased sheer brilliance and composure to clinch the F2 Sprint Race in Monte Carlo — a circuit renowned for its unforgiving corners and zero margin for error.
Starting from pole, Maini was relentlessly pursued by fellow Alpine Academy prodigy Gabriele Minì of PREMA Racing, with the threat of a mid-race safety car adding to the tension.Yet Maini never flinched.
In a masterclass of control under pressure, he led every lap from start to finish, sealing a historic win with poise beyond his years.
“P1, first Indian to win in Monaco too. It’s a great honour and a dream come true,” Maini said, visibly emotional. “I want to say thank you to DAMS and everyone who has supported me.We keep believing.”
Maini’s triumph isn’t just a personal milestone; it’s a national statement.
For a country still carving its place in global motorsport, the victory resonated deeply with fans and aspiring racers alike. The image of Maini standing on the top step — eyes glistening as Jana Gana Mana filled the Monaco air — delivered both inspiration and affirmation.
The win marks Maini’s second career F2 victory and propels him to 13th in the 2025 Drivers’ Championship with 11 points. DAMS Lucas Oil now holds sixth place in the Teams’ standings, tallying 54 points.
Monaco has long been a proving ground for greatness — a crucible where legends are born. On this day, it belonged not to the usual names, but to Kush Maini… and to India.
