Srinagar: A militant shot at a Jammu and Kashmir police Sub-Inspector from a point blank range in Khanyar area of Srinagar city this afternoon leaving him critically injured.
The police officer identified as Arshid Ahmad was immediately evacuated to a tertiary care hospital in the city but succumbed to grave bullet wounds.
A CCTV footage of the shooting incident showed militant quickly following the police officer as he comes out of a narrow lane. The militant shot at the head of officer from behind leaving him critically injured, shows the footage.
The slain officer, a resident of Kulmoona Kupwara succumbed during the surgery at SKIMS Srinagar.
Security forces cordoned off the area soon after the attack and searches are underway to track down the militant, reports said.
On June 23, two militants shot and killed a police officer on Naugam outskirts of Srinagar city before fleeing from the spot.
