Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on January 6 unveiled the 2026 calendars of the Tourism Department and the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) at the Civil Secretariat, underlining the government’s focus on branding, outreach and youth engagement in the tourism sector.
The calendars showcase some of Jammu and Kashmir’s most prominent tourist destinations and key tourism-related infrastructure. Congratulating the departments involved, the Chief Minister said such initiatives play an important role in amplifying the region’s tourism appeal.
“These calendars are more than annual publications. They serve as visual narratives of Jammu and Kashmir’s natural beauty and its steadily evolving tourism infrastructure,” he said.
On the occasion, Omar Abdullah also launched the official website of the Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir, designed as a comprehensive digital platform to promote tourism events and destinations, host digital archives and provide essential information to visitors and stakeholders.
The portal integrates links to Jammu Tourism, the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC), the J&K Cable Car Corporation and other allied organisations, offering users access to all relevant tourism-related information through a single window.
Emphasising the importance of digital engagement, the Chief Minister said a modern and dynamic online presence was critical for effective outreach. “The new Tourism Kashmir website is intended to be informative and accessible, serving as a one-stop platform for tourists and stakeholders alike,” he said.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated integrated skiing courses at Gulmarg and Sonamarg, comprising two batches of 32 and 25 trainees respectively. Officials informed him that the basic skiing course spans 14 days and is aimed at trainees aged between 12 and 18 years.
