A 29-year-old Chinese national has been detained by security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir after allegedly travelling through Ladakh and Kashmir without the mandatory permits, authorities confirmed.
The individual, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, reportedly moved across the Union Territories for more than two weeks before being intercepted.
Officials said the man’s mobile phone contained search queries linked to Article 370, Central Reserve Police Force deployments and other sensitive security-related keywords, prompting deeper scrutiny.
According to police sources, the visitor entered India through Nepal and toured multiple high-security zones in Ladakh before crossing into Kashmir, violating protocols that require foreign nationals — particularly those from China — to seek special permission to visit restricted areas.
The detention has triggered a wider enforcement drive, with authorities now inspecting hotels, homestays and guest facilities suspected of allowing foreign nationals to stay without proper documentation.
Investigators are now working to determine whether the individual’s actions were part of a planned reconnaissance effort or simply a case of negligence and ignorance of Indian travel restrictions.
Security officials stated that questioning is ongoing and the Chinese embassy has been informed in line with protocol.
