The death of Pakistani television and film actor Humaira Asghar Ali has taken a haunting turn, as investigators now believe she died nearly nine months ago — long before her decomposed body was discovered in her Karachi flat this week.
According to a report by Arab News, the 35-year-old actor is believed to have passed away around October 2024, with Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirming the body was in an “advanced stage of decomposition.”
The shocking discovery only came after the landlord filed a complaint over unpaid rent, prompting police to force entry into the apartment. Inside, they found a grim scene: dry and rusted water pipes, expired food, and no sign of a power supply.
Officials said her electricity was cut off in October due to non-payment, and there were no candles or alternate power sources in sight—suggesting a silent, lightless end.
Police now suspect she died between the time she last paid her utility bills and when her power was disconnected.
The last activity on her phone dates back to October 2024, while neighbors reported last seeing her in September or October of that year.
With the only other flat on her floor unoccupied, and the stench having faded by February, her death went unnoticed for months. “The food in jars had rusted, and items in the kitchen had expired over six months ago,” said one official.
Initially, police reported that Humaira’s family refused to claim the body, which was in such poor condition that visual identification was impossible. A DNA test was conducted for verification.
Her brother, Naveed Asghar, eventually traveled to Karachi to claim the remains, explaining the family’s earlier reluctance. “She had been distant for years.
My father had said that if anything happened, she could be buried there,” he told reporters.
Naveed also questioned the landlord’s role, asking, “Did anyone speak to him? What really happened between them?”
A career that flickered, a life that faded in solitude
Hailing from Lahore, Humaira Asghar Ali entered the entertainment industry in 2015. She played supporting roles in TV dramas including Just Married, Ehsaan Faramosh, Guru, and Chal Dil Mere, and appeared in the films Jalaibee (2015) and Love Vaccine (2021).
Her moment in the limelight came in 2022 when she joined the reality show Tamasha Ghar on ARY Digital. In 2023, she was honored with the Best Emerging Talent & Rising Star award at the National Woman Leadership Awards.
But behind the screen, her personal life was marked by estrangement and isolation. She had not visited her family in nearly 18 months, according to her brother.
Alone in a silent apartment, Humaira’s final days remain clouded in mystery—her voice unheard, her absence unnoticed, her legacy now a tragic reflection of neglect in plain sight.
