In a searing critique of the Bihar government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and NDA ally Chirag Paswan on July 26 denounced the state’s crumbling law and order situation, particularly after the alleged rape of an unconscious woman inside an ambulance by a driver and technician.
Paswan, who was en route to Gaya when he addressed the media, expressed anguish over the spiraling crime graph and his own alliance with the ruling dispensation.
“I feel sad that I am supporting a government where crime is completely out of control. The way lives of Biharis are being toyed with—this will lead the state to a catastrophic future,” he said.
His outburst came hours after fresh outrage erupted over the alleged sexual assault of a woman who had fainted while attempting a Home Guard recruitment test. She was reportedly raped inside an ambulance while unconscious.
Citing an unrelenting spate of violent incidents—ranging from murders and kidnappings to robberies and rapes—Paswan accused the state administration of surrendering before criminal elements.
“The question is not whether arrests were made, but why such heinous crimes keep recurring,” he said.
He questioned the effectiveness and intent of law enforcement: “How are criminals able to execute such acts with impunity?
Either the administration is hand-in-glove with them, or it is engaged in a cover-up—or worse, it has become entirely incompetent.”
Paswan acknowledged the possibility that some crimes may be politically motivated in the backdrop of upcoming elections but insisted that such speculation cannot absolve the administration of its core responsibility: protecting its citizens.
“If elections are fueling this, then that too shows a collapse of governance. Even in that case, the administration is answerable,” he said.
“This is not just about statistics—it’s about daughters who suffer, families who mourn, and a state that is being dragged into darkness.” he added.
