Kupwara: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thrusday said it has recovered Heroin (Contraband substance) worth millions of rupees by busting a ‘Pakistan-sponsored narco-terror module’ in border town Karnah of Kupwara district.
Giving details of the recovery to media persons during a presser, SSP Kupwara GV Sundeep said that accused Mukhtar Ahmad Shah of Panjitara Tanghdar has been arrested.
Around nine kilograms of Heroin was recovered from his possession, he added.
The estimated market value of the contraband is somewhere between 50-60 crores, he informed.
“We were on it for past one week after receiving specific inputs. Finally last night police assisted by Army’s 6 JAK RIF recovered the contraband”, SSP Sundeep said.
“The drug smuggler has been in contact with handlers across the border. All such smugglers are involved in supporting the militant groups by finding them through drug money.” he added.
Whenever smugglers are arrested or narco-modules busted, it exposes their links with Pakistan, according to senior police officer.
“Pakistan push the handlers and smugglers across the borders to fund and support the militant groups through drug money”, SSP said.
This is a big hawala racket as money is transferred without movement to finance militant groups.
A case FIR number 22/2021 under section 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at police station Karnah and further investigations taken up.
“We are committed to eradicate the menace and would deal with iron hands with the people involved in it” the SSP said.
The senior police officer urged parents and civil society to play their role in combating the menace for the larger benefit of society.
