Kupwara: In its’ crackdown against drug abuse, police on Monday arrested a notorious drug peddler in border town Karnah and seized contraband substance valued at Crores of rupees in international market, from his possession.
Following a specific input about the smuggling and transportation of narcotics in Pingla-Haridal area of Karnah, a joint team of police and Army’s 17 Bihar set up nakas at different locations in the area and started frisking of the pedestrians, a police statement said.
During checking, an individual identified as Waqar Ahmad Baden of Amrohi, Karnah was asked by police and army to stop for checking but he tried to flee from the spot.
“The suspect was chased and apprehended. During checking, 5 kgs of Brown Sugar was recovered from a bag he was carrying,” the statement adds.
A case FIR No. 71/2020 has been filed in Police Station Karnah, u/s 8/21 NDPS has been registered and investigation taken up.
The locals hailed efforts of police in combating the abuse. Police appeals the general public to cooperate in sharing all the information related to drug abuse so that curative steps can be initiated and a drug free environment created.
Notably, police and army busted a narco- terror module by arresting three drug peddlers along with drugs worth Crores of rupees and arms at Sadhna Pass en-route Kupwara-Karnah road in July this year.
