Srinagar: At least 18 residential structures housing 30 families were completely destroyed in an overnight fire at Sweeper Colony Noorbagh Baramulla rendering families homeless, officials said on Friday.
SSP Baramulla and other senior officers of Fire and Emergency department and Army oversaw the hours-long fire extinguishing operation. The fire was brought under control at around 1:30 a.m. but not before at least 18 houses were raised to ashes.
Leakage of LPG from a residential house caused fire, which quickly engulfed several other adjoining houses in the vicinity, officials said.
Five gas cylinders burst before the blaze was eventually brought under control after hours of hectic efforts by fire and emergency department, police and army officials.
Five tenders from the Fire and Emergency and two from Army worked relentlessly to put off the devastating fire.
Eighteen houses in which at least 30 families lived were completely gutted in the fire. A person identified as Javaid Qazi sustained injuries. One vehicle was also damaged in the blaze, officials added.
