Kupwara: Braving bone chilling cold, some locals of snow-bound Hangnikoote village of Handwara Tehsil carried a pregnant woman and a 90-years-old patient on stretchers to Handwara district hospital as the road leading to village remains snow-bound after fresh snowfall, locals said.
The hospital is around seven kilometers away from the village.
Reshma Begum 35, developed some pregnancy related complications in the morning and her husband Muneer Ahmad Daded sought help from locals to remove her to health facility.
The woman was wrapped in a blanket and put on a stretcher. Later, men ferried her on shoulders and walked five kilometer to a health-centre in Tarathpora.
Meanwhile an ailing old man identified as Saif Din Dadad son of Abdullah Dadad resident of Hangnikoot was also wrapped in a blanket and put on a stretcher.
Later, men ferried him on shoulders and walked five kilometers to a health-centre in Taratpora.
Son of the Ailing Nazir Ahmad Dadad said that his father and pregnant woman were finally brought to district hospital Handwara for specialised treatment.
The road leading to village and some adjoining villages still remains snow-bound and they were awaiting snow clearance after fresh snowfall, locals said.
