Kupwara: A youth, who was gearing up to join Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and tasked to lob grenade at security forces as a test to join the banned militant group was apprehended by a joint team of security forces in Lolab Tuesday evening, police said.
During sustained questioning, Altaf Ahmad Bhat of Kanthpora village confessed that he was in touch with recently killed top HM militant, Hyder on social media, who lured him to join the militant group.
Following relentless efforts and cooperation of his family, police and army apprehended him, said, a police official .
He was in possesion of grenade, which he was tasked to lob at security forces as a test, for joining militant ranks, he added.
Last evenig, a joint team of police and Army’s 47 RR recovered the grenade that he had hid in a nallah, in presence of magistrate.
A case under FIR no 126/2020 U/S 7/25 Arms Act, Ss.13, 18, 39 UAPA has been registered at police station Sogam and further investigations taken up.
