Srinagar: Regretting the ‘stone pelting incident on police’ in Sumbal area of Bandipora and calling it as unfortunate, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar Friday said that those defying restrictions were enemies of the society.
Kumar said that the violators of lockdown have been arrested and those defying restrictions would be sternly dealt under the law.
Kumar said that 13 FIRs have been registered against people spreading fake content on social networking sites.
“The area where people pelted stones on police and administration in Sumbal is a Red Zone and people should have stayed indoors and adhered to medical protocol. We are enforcing it for the public good and people should support it,” KNS, local news agency, quoted IGP as having said.
“Those who violate restrictions are harming themselves, their families and society. But police will not spare these enemies of society. We lodged FIR against violators in the Sumbal incident and arrested them,” he added.
IGP Kashmir said that they have written to social networking sites authorities to assist in tracing the miscreants.
“Our Cyber police station is working on it. We have already arrested some of the miscreants, who wanted to create panic. We will take action against all such miscreants,” he said.
He reiterated that in case of emergency, people can contact control rooms and they will be provided all assistance.
Regarding the reports of agriculture activities not been allowed by security agencies, he said, “There is no restriction on carrying out agriculture activities except in red zone areas,”
IGP said that the identity of militants, who were killed today in Shopian was yet to be confirmed.
Kumar said that after recent civilian killings by militants, security forces have intensified the operations against them in South Kashmir.
He thanked people for extending cooperation with the security forces in enforcing the restrictions.
